How Cone Denim Supports Mental Health Awareness – Sourcing Journal

Cone Denim has launched new selvedge denim to support Mental Health Awareness Month.

This is the newest fabric in the Cone Community collection, a series of fabrics designed to support various causes and organizations that align with Cone Denim values. Cone will donate a portion of sales tied to the new selvedge to the Child Mind Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of children and their families struggling with mental health and learning disabilities.

This new Cone Community fabric is designed in an 80s-inspired construction by Cone Denim in a bright distilled indigo hue with green selvage identification to represent mental health awareness. This denim construction is designed to be versatile in terms of size, fit and gender.

“Cone is thrilled to be able to use its platform to have a positive impact,” said Steve Maggard, President of Cone Denim. “Everyone knows someone who has been affected by mental health issues. Raising awareness of the importance of children’s mental health and the resources available is more crucial than ever. We are thrilled to partner with the Child Mind Institute and support their efforts to give children and families the help they need.

Cone said denim can be a personal and even sentimental part of anyone’s wardrobe and it’s the company’s hope and inspiration to create products like the Awareness Fabric. to mental health with meaning and purpose in mind as a way to deliver impactful messages.

The factory has been committed to creating collections that support individual causes since 2019, with this new green selvedge being the fourth launch of the Cone Community collection. Cone launched its Breast Cancer Awareness collection with a nod to pink, in partnership with the Alight program, which provides financial, educational and emotional support to women and families seeking diagnosis and treatment. Second, Cone released Pride fabric incorporating the rainbow colors of the Pride Flag and donating proceeds to the HRC Human Rights Campaign, a group that focuses on achieving equality for the LGBTQ+ community.

Cone also created Clean Water denim, a water-inspired selvedge to support efforts to end the global water crisis. Proceeds benefit Water.org, a non-profit organization that has transformed millions of lives by providing access to clean water. Cone’s commitment to minimizing its water consumption and reducing its impact on the environment aligns well with Water.org and extends far beyond its Clean Water selvedge fabrics.

“We are always exploring new partnerships in an effort to support our customers and employees while raising awareness and funds for the important social concerns of our time,” said Maggard.
